FREE ONILNE LESSONS (Slash Chords) A slash chord is simply a chord with an alternative bass note. Example: F chord. The chord notes on your left hand and right hand are notes from F chord (F, A, C) When there is a F/G chord, it is still a F chord. The only difference is that one note. The G note has to be the starting note (the lowest note). F/G chord: G bass note. Your left hand must start with G note. It is read "F over G". The F chord is played with G as the bass note. (The G is the lowest note of the chord). The chord (F/G) has nothing to do with a G chord. It is a genuine F chord, except the rule is to start with a single G note as the lowest bass note on your left hand. Thus, the chord (F/G) has no effect on your right hand. To ensure that you understand fully, let's look into the difference between F chord and F/G chord in chord diagrams. Typically when asked to play an F chord, naturally you play F note as a bass note without further instructions. F Chord: |
