FREE ONILNE LESSONS (Creating Left Hand Patterns Using Chords Notes) You can always create a longer left hand pattern by using chord notes. For instance in C chord, we know that the chord notes are C, E & G. Hence, these are the available notes to play with. Now, try in any random order, playing all or some of the available notes from left toright. (Using sustain pedal) There is asimple rule to note: The first 2 notes that you start with must usually be played wide apart especially on lower octaves. Meaning to say, it won't sound good if you are starting with C (1st) and then toE (3rd), that is if you are on the lower octave below the middle C.This causes what we call harmonic distortion. Thus, for a start, you may consider starting on C (1st) and then to G (5th), and then the other notes C E G. Examples in C chord using 5 quaver notes: Examples in C chord using 8 quaver notes: Do not restrict yourself to these patterns here. The possibilities are endless, and you have to use your creativity to create your own patterns. Certain patterns will sound nicer that the others you create, it is all very subjective. There is no real right and wrong. These are some useful pointers to help with your creativity: - Using 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 or 7 or 8 quaver notes patterns - Choose to skip certain notes, hence spacing out your pattern - Do not just move in ascending order(left to right) but sometimes move backwards along the way(descending order). |
