FREE ONILNE LESSONS (Close and Wide Playing) 'Close' playing means playing with both the left & right hands close together, whereas 'wide' playing means playing with both the left & right hands far apart, leaving more room for your left hand to 'run'. It is a good idea to create variations using both styles of playing (close & wide) in one song. The close style of playing means the choice of notes on your left hand becomes limited, thus creating a quieter feel. When using the wide style of playing, your left hand will be required to spread in octaves, using notes wide apart and thus creating a richer sound. Example: Close playing : Example: Wide playing: |
