FREE ONILNE LESSONS (1-5-8 & 1-5-10 Left Hand Patterns)

If you have absolutely no idea how to improvise on your left hand, this lesson will probably give you a good start. Let ' stry the easiest left hand broken chord pattern, 1-5-8.

The 1-5-8 refers to the respective numbers (notes) in the scale of the chord.

Example:

C chord in 1-5-8 style- the notes are C (1), G (5), C (8) respectively

Example:

F chord in 1-5-8 style- the notes are F (1), C (5), F (8) respectively

Try that with any of the songs you can already play. Remember, use the sustain pedal while playing every new chord.

Now,after you have tried 1-5-8, try 1-5-10.

The 1-5-10 broken chord pattern is actually derived from the chord itself. As you probably know, every major or minor chord is formed using 1-3-5 of their respective scale.

C chord: C E G (1, 3, 5)

Thus, in a broken chord style, we bring the E note (3 rd ) to a higher octave. Notice now the note becomes the 10 instead.

Example:

C chord (1-5-10)

Example

F chord (1-5-10)

The 1-5-10 style is the most basic pattern that consists of all three notes in a chord, a great tool for starters!
